This winter, stay warm with our favorite warming products!

Cooking

Add in the heat with spices from NickyDi's!

Cooking with Turmeric:

Turmeric contains anti-inflammatory health benefits, but it also adds a beautiful yellowish orange color to dishes. Bon Appetit Magazine describes the flavor as "overwhelmingly earthy and bitter, almost musky, with a bit of peppery spice(Stanek, 2018). My favorite turmeric recipe is chickpea curry. See a recipe for it here. For a warming drink, try turmeric in golden milk, an Indian drink made with turmeric, warm milk, and spices.

NickyDi also makes other spice blends including Garam Masala, Bengal blend, Pasta Sauce (its spicy!), and Verdant Blend. Learn more about each spice mix here.

Cooking with Garam Masala:

Garam Masala is known as "hot spices" in Hindi for its warming feel. Use this blend of dried red chilies, bay leaves, coriander, poppy seeds, black pepper, cumin, Nigella sativa, mustard, cardamom, star anise, cinnamon, and mace to add warmth and fragrance to dishes. Try this recipe from NYTimes Cooking for peas with Garam Masala here

For Tikka Masala lovers, use this recipe with Garam Masala, turmeric, ground cumin and coriander. Its delicious!

Sichuan Chili Oil

Sichuan cuisine is characterized by a variety of flavors. It can be complex, spicy, flowery, salty, sweet, and smoky. One of the stars of Sichuan cuisine is Sichuan Chili oil. It is made with ground chilis, aromatic spices and Sichuan peppercorns that are infused in oil.

Our Chili Oil from Blank Slate Kitchen is "tantalizingly tingly, complex, nuanced, exquisitely balanced and of course spicy!"

Love Feast Vegan Chili

Love Feast is our beloved hot meal vendor from Millbrook, NY. During the summer, you will find Love Feast serving chana masala, samosas, rice bowls, curry, and more at our Farmer's Market. During the colder months, we sell Love Feast's ready to eat chili. Our vegan chili is one of our most popular winter foods. Made with beans, tomatoes, corn, soy, celery, cumin, molasses, parsley, oregano, basil, and spices, you won't even notice that this chili doesn't contain meat. Mildly spicy, it has a kick of heat to warm you up, but not overwhelm your taste buds.
